This is my arena. I’m not sappy and sweet, there will be no romantic Valentine’s Day dinner for me and the Husband. Sorry.
But love songs, I love me a good love song. Give me sunshine, rainbows, unicorns and 70’s music, and you’ve got me. I admit, I can be a music snob sometimes, but I prefer to slum it in my off time.
You can know the truth, I won’t hide it, my favorite Pandora station is currently Heart to Heart by Kenny Loggins.
So when it comes to making a Love Songs Mix Tape, well frankly. That’s basically my whole iPod. So instead of actually thinking through my choices and carefully picking the best mix, I hit play on my iPod and picked the first 5 songs.
I Won’t Last a Day Without You – The Carpenters – There was no chance a Carpenters song wouldn’t wind up on this list, you see I was weened on The Carpenters, every one of their song is on my iPod, although I have selectively placed them in the correct categories, because, let’s face it, Karen wasn’t always singing about the joys of love.
I Just Want to Be Your Everything – Andy Gibb – OK, seriously I was so in love with Andy Gibb in 1977 that I remember writing him letters in my first grade scrawl and being sure he read them. Little did I know how troubled he was. If only he believed how much we loved him…
I Love You Just The Way You Are – Billy Joel – This is the first popular song I learned how to play on my flute. It’s a great message, this is just the kind of guy you want for your daughter…hmmm, yet he married a super model.
I Just Called To Say I Love You – Stevie Wonder – Here’s the cheese. I almost skipped this one and pretended it didn’t come up, but then I thought, you guys deserve this.
You’re The First, The Last, My Everything – Barry White – This is one of my favorite Just Dance 4 tunes.
Who do you love? Make he/she/it a mix tape and join in! You know I love to love you baby!
These are the rules. Five songs (do your best to stick to it, I really do listen to every mix and I don’t want you to wait). Stick to the theme (as best you can). Try and check out at least two of the other players or more! (everyone wants to share their tunes with you).
Create a mix, not a “hey look at all the cool songs I know” we’re not snobs, if you were our best bud and you were gonna make us a tape, what would it be? And share this party so more people will play next week!
Do me a favor, if you’re a veteran, try to visit at least one person you’ve never visited before.

Hell, yes to Billy Joel and have seen him in concert and need to see him again very soon, because he is playing at Madison Square Garden doing concerts once a month all this year. But Happy Valentine’s Day and great list as always 🙂
He’s playing at Wrigley Field this summer Janine. I really need to go!
A big “Yes!” to Barry White.
Totally agree, of course 🙂
I love Just the Way You Are and Stevie Wonder. What a great list!
Your list is fun! In fact, I may not be as mean, bitter, and cynical as I was upon arrival before listening to these songs.
What?! Sleepyhead? You not bitter and cynical? NEVER!
This tape is awesome. I love me some Carpenters – they are on the XM Love station all the time. And Billy Joel…just bought tickets to see him in July – woo hoo!! He was my very first concert ever.
Thanks Dana! I want to see him too this summer, it’ll be a tough ticket to get, but we’ll see!
Jen – ANDY GIBB?!?!?!?!? OMG, please tell me you weren’t that cheesy once …. please! lol I can handle all the rest … but, Jen …. ANDY GIBB???? You and I have got to talk! 🙂
LOL Rich! I love me the Gibbs, I’m sorry. I AM the cheesy one, I really am.
I had that song in my book of flute songs as a kid too. And lots of Chicago! 🙂
Now, as I am lactose intolerant, this list is making my stomach upset (*cough* too much cheese). HA HA I’m just joshin ya, Jen…
You know what section they keep that Stevie Wonder song in, right? (Just testing your High Fidelity quote knowledge…)
All I got is Top 5 Crimes perpetrated by Stevie Wonder in the 80’s and 90’s, what am I missing? (besides should we punish him for current sins?)
I’m not a sappy sap sap either. Thanks for satisfying my 80s cheese cravings w/ Billy Joel & Stevie Wonder1
Why you’re welcome Bianca!
Love the list! I always forget about the Carpenters, I’ve got to get some of their music. You always bring me back to those early days – Andy Gibb!! Love that one, too!
Thanks Stephanie, I really am just a sap at heart.
seriously, now….do you think we were sisters or twins in another universe? Because between starting with the Carpenters and ending with Barry, whew, sister!
I loved this trip down the memory lane of my development stages and while I like you a lot Jen, I’d totally fight you for Andy Gibb. 😉
I think we may have been Kir!

Just the way you are…I should have used that for YOUR tape 🙂 Especially since you have to love me just the way I am. I seem to have messed up again. I thought I was supposed to motivate you
Oh Kerri, you’re so sweet. I DO love YOU just the way you are 🙂
These are all so great! I had the BIGGEST crush on Andy Gibb! Had the posters, albums, screen printed t-shirts….I had it all. I’ve also always been a fan of the Carpenters forever. I still sing Superstar in the shower and sang Close To You to my kids when they were younger. Great mix!
Thanks Sandy! I’m glad you appreciate my stuck in the 70’s-ness 🙂 Because I’m not going anywhere! I was jamming to The Carpenters in the car tonight!

Well you know I love every. single. song. on here. The Carpenters. Check. Billy Joel. check. Barry White. check. Stevie Wonder. check. (although would’ve been totally hilarious to use Superstition instead)
But Andy Gibb. Oh, my love for the Gibb Brothers knows no end. You could have picked almost any one of theirs and I would swoon. Thanks for a great read.
Anything by Billy Joel just makes my day! So far this has been one of my fave mixed tapes. I love the love songs 🙂
