This week’s them on Twisted MixTape Tuesday is: You are the biggest jerk ever for breaking my heart OR I am the biggest jerk ever for breaking your heart and I’m sorry.
Who hasn’t been burned or been the burner. I know I’ve been burned, but I feel like I’ve always been the gentle burner. Although don’t ask the guy I was dating before I met my husband. He is still convinced, to this day – 14 years later, that I was cheating on him with my husband. Really dude? Don’t you think by now, if that was the case, I would have fessed up?
Then there’s my sister, she’s the angelic one of the two of us. Yet, even she has been the burner. When she met her now best friend in the whole world, Melissa, Melissa told my sister about this guy she liked. (Now this should have been a ginormous red flag but) Melissa said she met him at a bar, he had a little too much to drink, and he was crying saying “My girlfriend said she don’t love me no more.” Well that girlfriend was my sister, and Melissa became my sister’s roommate and lifelong friend. Greg, on the other hand, is in the where are they now files.
I made a mixtape for this dude who broke my heart into smithereens. He was such a jerk. OK he was a jerk in hindsight. I made him this mixtape, in real life, after he broke my heart into smithereens (did I say that already? sorry) Anyway. For some reason I remember the songs I put on that mix.
If only I had known then that I would meet am awesome guy, and have an even awesomer son, it would have saved me a lot of angst. And regret. And what-did-I-do-wronging. But everything happens for a reason. And it sure makes good music!
I hate you Mike Mrozek you broke my heart to pieces and never looked back. (no names have been changed to protect the NOT innocent)
Mike hasn’t called me back. It’s been a few days, we’re supposed to see Lyle Lovett in two days. He has the tickets. He’s not calling me back. I can’t sleep
I’m So Tired – The Beatles
He was in Turkey for 4 weeks, when he came back he said he couldn’t wait to see me so he didn’t even unpack before he showed up at my door. He was so excited he left his backpack in my apartment. When he didn’t return my calls for 5 days I got curious and checked out his backpack. He had a journal.
Lyin’ Eyes – The Eagles
Did I mention that Mike looked like a model? That’s how I met him, I needed a photography model for a class. But he was still a cheater no matter how good he looked.
You’re So Vain – Carly Simon
The truth was, I really wanted him to hurt as much as I was hurting. And I thought if he did, the guilt might make him come back.
Your Cheatin Heart – Elvis Presley
When I realized he wasn’t coming back, and made peace with it. I took my best friend to Lyle Lovett. It was awesome. I was ready to move on. But that doesn’t mean I didn’t want him to suffer. And watch.
I Wanna Be Around – Tony Bennett
Here’s the fun part! The rules of Twisted MixTape are as such: Try and create a 5 song mix based on this week’s theme. This week our theme is I Suck because I broke your heart, or you suck because you broke mine.
Take it easy, make it flow, remember in your mind you are creating your mixtape for someone special, or someone you hate – as the case may be.
Create your own post and link it up, or put your mix in the comments. If you are going to link-up there must be a song – relating to the theme – in your post. And really, if you’re not ready to link up with us, no worries! We love songs in the comments! So bring it!
Please visit your fellow mix-makers, and if you can, comeback every so often to see if anyone new has arrived. Share this all over the place, the more the merrier! And go visit my lovely cohort, without whom I would have never had the guts to make this happen – Kristi at Finding Ninee. She’s always got a song, a funny story and some silly Drawrings. Mostly, just have fun, there’ s no pressure here.
And here’s where I say click-thru to iTunes to find these songs…
The Beatles (White Album) – The Beatles
Lyin’ Eyes – Their Greatest Hits 1971-1975
The Best of Carly Simon – Carly Simon
Your Cheatin’ Heart – Welcome to My World
I Wanna Be Around (Single Version) – The Ultimate Tony Bennett
And here’s where I give you The List Of All Lists:
September 3 – “BEST OF” pick a band, any band, and put together a “Best of” playlist. Easy peasy for the holiday weekend.
September 10 – Make a mix for a friend of songs you think are beautiful. Either because they make you happy, they are musically composed in some way because they are pleasing to you or they just plain make you think…this is beautiful. (that doesn’t always mean happy)
September 17 – Free for all! New feature! Every 6 weeks I’m gonna post a free for all. Make a mix, any mix! Whatever speaks to you is AOK with me. Maybe you have a theme in your head, an idea to showcase. WHATEVER YOU WANT!
September 24 – Relaxing slow jams. You wanna chill, you want your friends to chill. Any genre from rock to jazz to hip-hop, but it’s gotta be slow-jams
October 1 – Our own Troy from As Long As I’m Singing contributed this week’s theme: the (5) seminal songs who made you the person you are today. The shutter-openers, the wakers, the “I can see clearly now the rain is goners.” The tunes that forced you to look in the mirror and say, “Hey good-looking, you seem familiar, yet new.”

Seriously I love every one of your choices tonight, especially Elvis and The Beatles and I dying now to see the rest of the choices from this one now, too from others linking up! 🙂
Janine – I think it’s gonna be a fun one!
great choices, especially Elvis and Beatles.
I will not be naming names because of outstanding court action & I want my exes to buy books as my revenge.
excellent job, ma’am
I think you will love Wednesday’s 100 word song
Thanks Lance – Yeah, earning some of that money back would be good revenge. I’m figuring some day down the line he’s gonna google himself, and voila!
CRAP I totally tried to be the first to link up and failed. Oh well, I promise I followed (some of) the rules this week 🙂
On another note, I am in awe of your chutzpah. You totally outted the jerk that sucks?
You are my freaking hero!
Aw Kerri, you’re awesome. And thank you!
Oh…Mike. Mike, Mike, Mike. Why’d ya have to go and be such a dick to our bud, Jen?
Karma Mike. ‘sall I’m sayin’. Internet karma.
Lyin’ Eyes – YES! I really wanted to include this one. Glad you did.
Cheatin’ Heart – For sure. But the Hank Williams version for me.
Tony Bennett, Carly Simon and The Beatles…this is a nice eclectic mix Jen.
Curses to Mike Mrozek.
Thanks Linda, and you’re right!
You ballsy thing, you 🙂 At least you got to the concert in the end. I had an…interesting time with this week’s one. Found it a bit of a struggle to write (but easy to music).
Yeah Lizzie- for this one the music really writes the post doesn’t it?
OH MAN. I want to comb through all of the blogs who link up with you tonight. You put the anger all out there which is exactly what it feels like when you’re in that moment. I wonder if I read through all the posts if I’ll relive enough of that dating shit to appreciate my husband today even though he came home way too late from work 🙂
The first “I hate you” song that popped into my head was a Nelly Furtado song. Followed by a Coldplay song. I’ll stop there, I’m only embarrassing myself now.
You can’t embarrass yourself here Jean! It’s a safe space, sing it!
Awwww, I’m sorry he broke your heart (ass) but look where you ended up! Great mix tape! I love Elvis and I sing “You’re So Vain” really loud. What an idiot to leave his journal behind!
I know. Not so smart, huh?
My college boyfriend cheated on me and I found out because he left an E-mail open (likely wanting to be caught) from a girl who wrote “Every time I hear the song Shake it like a Salt Shaker” I think of us grinding. So sweet, right? Dodged that bullet…
Kate, that is totally my point. Bullet dodged!
PHENOMENAL list (as long as it’s understood that I’m ignoring the Beatless)! And with it, can we put Mike to bed now? Seems as if you’ve far outgrown him, and it’s time for him to dawdle on his way, lost in his loss =)
Troy – As an acting student, I had to dig down to the bottom of my soul and really play the part, to make this list well. That being said, he’s way put to bed!

Elvis makes my heart swoon.I’ve been to his house 4 times. 🙂
Tracy! I wanted to take the kids on our way to South Carolina last year, but it’s so expensive I didn’t want to waste it on a 5yo. Soon though!
You make me laugh:))) I do like fun people, great songs, my era! LOL
Just dropping in from the Facebook Frenzy to not only like you on FB but to follow twitter:))
Hope to see you at
Let’s Get Social Sunday
Thanks Evelyn! Glad you found me!
I have always liked that Carly Simon Song! And it’s one of those you simply can’t get out of your head!
Thanks Michelle! I know!
I love “I’m So Tired”. That line about Sir Walter Raleigh . . . “He was such a stupid git!” Classic!
LOVE this! This is actually one of my favourites by you. I’ve told you before no one incorporates music into writing as organically as you.
I mean you could take the Eagle Greatest Hits and fill out this list in one fell swoop!
Haha I’d love to see this guy’s face when this pops up in Google search.
holy crap I love how you told the story in short bits with the music between each next phase. UGH cheaters suck! Mike sucks! But I’m glad you moved on and have an awesome hubs now. Oh and that story about your sister and her bff Melissa is priceless.
the best thing I can say, “I already liked every song on your list this week”*
In any event. I really want to thank you and your aide-de-tunes, Kristi for this here blog hop here. Very relaxing, in a stressful-Monday-night sense of the word. But, like so much in life, once it gets started the fun increases and the stress decreases.
I look forward to Tuesdays, yo
*only after writing that first sentence, did the fairly gigunda ego make itself obvious… now why the hell couldn’t I have had that back when I was way younger?? lol
Love this list. Every time I hear “You’re So Vain” I imagine Carly Simon singing it to Mick Jagger, even though she’s said it’s not about him. I also imagine Mick Jagger doing that chicken walk past a mirror and checking out his duck face. It’s a very visual song for me. 🙂
Such a fun (awful??) list… I feel like I am ALWAYS the poor burnt soul (until now, I roped in a keeper).
#1 by far is Alanis Morissette- You Oughta Know. Talk about a pissed off woman!
#2 Adele- Someone Like you. Thank GOD this song came out AFTER my last breakup or I would probably still be crying on my closet floor.
#3Taylor Swift- Picture to Burn. Good old Taylor could be all over this list, poor girlie.
#4 Justin Timberlake- Cry me a river. Any excuse to put JT on my list. I freaking love him and he would make ANYONE feel better after a broken heart.
#5 Toni Braxton- Un-break my Heart. This song still gives me chills. Talk about a tear-jerker! Good thing it was just puppy love when this one made me sad.
