This week’s them on Twisted MixTape Tuesday is: You are the biggest jerk ever for breaking my heart OR I am the biggest jerk ever for breaking your heart and I’m sorry.
Who hasn’t been burned or been the burner. I know I’ve been burned, but I feel like I’ve always been the gentle burner. Although don’t ask the guy I was dating before I met my husband. He is still convinced, to this day – 14 years later, that I was cheating on him with my husband. Really dude? Don’t you think by now, if that was the case, I would have fessed up?
Then there’s my sister, she’s the angelic one of the two of us. Yet, even she has been the burner. When she met her now best friend in the whole world, Melissa, Melissa told my sister about this guy she liked. (Now this should have been a ginormous red flag but) Melissa said she met him at a bar, he had a little too much to drink, and he was crying saying “My girlfriend said she don’t love me no more.” Well that girlfriend was my sister, and Melissa became my sister’s roommate and lifelong friend. Greg, on the other hand, is in the where are they now files.
I made a mixtape for this dude who broke my heart into smithereens. He was such a jerk. OK he was a jerk in hindsight. I made him this mixtape, in real life, after he broke my heart into smithereens (did I say that already? sorry) Anyway. For some reason I remember the songs I put on that mix.
If only I had known then that I would meet am awesome guy, and have an even awesomer son, it would have saved me a lot of angst. And regret. And what-did-I-do-wronging. But everything happens for a reason. And it sure makes good music!

Love this list. Every time I hear “You’re So Vain” I imagine Carly Simon singing it to Mick Jagger, even though she’s said it’s not about him. I also imagine Mick Jagger doing that chicken walk past a mirror and checking out his duck face. It’s a very visual song for me. 🙂

#4 Justin Timberlake- Cry me a river. Any excuse to put JT on my list. I freaking love him and he would make ANYONE feel better after a broken heart.
