100 Word Song – Nearly Lost You

This week I am continuing the story of Lu and Cici for my good friend Lance’s 100 Word Song Meme over at My Blog Can Beat Up Your Blog and one of my partners at Raised on the Radio. The song is Nearly Lost You by The Screaming Trees. I am amazed at how effortlessly this story flows with only a song to push it along.  Cici discovered she had been living a life based on a lie told 20 years ago when she was summoned to New Orleans for a will reading. You can see how the story began here.

This is the second chapter in which we begin seeing things from Lu’s point of view over 20 years ago.

“I’d love to stay and chat but, as you can see, I have a job to do.”

“Ah, now that will do. North – somewhere north. Chicago.”

Her brief pause told it all.

“You’re pretty far from home. Don’t tell me you couldn’t use a friend?”

She stopped what she was doing, turned and looked at him dead in the eye. “You don’t even know me. You want to be my friend? Why?” She threw her apron down and walked out the door.

Damn, jerk. “Wait, wait. I’m sorry,” he reached for her arm. “Whoa, I nearly lost you there.”
