Twisted MixTape #41 – My Husband’s iPod Scares Me

mixtape jenkehl 200

One of my least favorite things is going into my husband’s office. It is a freaking mess in there, but even more so he listens to…..pop music (she says with a whisper, cagey eyes looking to the side).  My husband is so much more open-minded than I am. He’ll mix up Cat Stevens and Daft Punk like it’s no big deal. And you never know what’s coming next! It’s terrifying, almost like living in a fun house with the Circus Clown.

If the music is playing sometimes I just turn around before opening the door.

This week the theme of our MixTape is – The best new song’s you’ve heard this past year. Can be oldies or new songs, either way they are new to you!

Here’s a sampling of what you might hear if you walked in the front door of our house and yes the order is this random:

Party Rock Anthem – LMFAO

Royals – Pentatonix. He actually has 5 different versions of this song on his iPod.

Katmandu – Cat Stevens. One thing I love about my husband is his encyclopedic knowledge of Cat Stevens. In the 13 years we’ve been married I have learned more about Cat Stevens than I ever thought there was to learn.

Shadows – Lindsey Stirling. This is AMAZING I actually thanked him for this one.

Daft Punk – Get Lucky (thanked him for this too)

Thank you for listening! Now share your MixTape with all of us. The best part of this party is we get to hear so much music that may be new, may be forgotten or may be just what you wanted to hear right now.

These are the rules. Five songs (do your best to stick to it, I listen to every mix and I don’t want you to wait). Stick to the theme (as best you can). Check out the other players (everyone wants to share their tunes with you).

Create a mix, not a “hey look at all the cool songs I know” we’re not snobs, if you were our best bud and you were gonna make us a tape, what would it be? And share this party so more people will play next week!

Do me a favor, if you’re a veteran, try and visit at least one person you’ve never visited before.

And now, The List of all Lists

January 21 – Favorite Dance or Club Music. This list was suggested by our own Kir from Kir’s Corner. Her younger brother suddenly passed away last week, but through this tragedy she has a bright spot in her heart. Her brother was a DJ and loved great Dance music. Don’t feel sad, this is to celebrate his life! In her words I know that he would love it, he loved music, he loved people dancing and enjoying themselves.
January 28 – One of your friends is feeling down and needs to feel better. Make a mix to make him/her feel better. This can be songs you know your friend will love or songs meant to cheer someone up. You decide.
February 4 – A mix to Get Motivated. Whether it’s to workout, write or just get out of bed. Mix it up!
February 11 – Love to Love you baby. (Or friend or kid or dog or cat, whatever)
February 18 – We’re back to your choice, play us what you want, we’ll listen!
February 25 – Guilty Pleasures-the songs and or groups that you hate to admit that you love… (Thank you Sarah from The Sadder but Wiser Girl)
March 4 – If My Life Had A Soundtrack…

If you’re still here, thanks! I would love it if you checked out my site, Raised on the Radio. We are always looking for guest posts, and your Wrong Song Lyrics. So head on over!

  3. Hey!! We both have Daft Punk’s song on our lists! Great minds and all that!

My playlists would probably scare you too then…mine are all over the place, old stuff, new stuff, semi-new stuff to oldies to blues & soul to pop/Top 40–all.over.the.place! 😉

    • Thanks Marcy, I don’t know for sure if I ever heard that Cat Stevens song before last week when my husband had it playing. But I definitely loved it.

  5. Dig that Lindsey Sterling song. I enjoyed Daft Punk back in the day and it’s been a long wait for a new album. They didn’t disappoint.

  6. I love the Royals cover – so beautiful. Generally speaking – I think that, as far as marriage parallels go – I’m your husband, and you are my husband. My husband remains “wedded” to our classis rock station with a loyalty that is … noteworthy … but the result is that our marriage at times has played to an 80 track classic rock repeat. I own and LOVE the White Album. But the world is ever changing … go out and sample often from the new music … you might find something wonderful (as you did here)

  10. I actually like everything on this list. I’d never heard of Lindsey but I like her. And I like the Pentatonix version of Royals but I have a hard time watching them sing…it’s the smirks…drives me nuts. I think I’d like your hubby’s iPod, I like continuity sometimes, other times I like to mix it all up.

  11. Love this list. Hadn’t heard of Pentatonix or Lindsey Stirling before reading and I have to ask you to thank your husband for me, too! I’m late again, but boy, can’t wait to get through the other’s lists. Thanks for being here.

  12. I dig the husband.
I could sit forever in front of youtube listening to Pentatonix. They are amazing. Now that it musical talent.
I am a music download whore so I’ve got tons of tunes on my iPod. Good thing my computer died with all of the songs on it. Son of a…

  14. I had to laugh that your husband has five versions of Royals on his iPod. My husband LOVES that song and if he had is own iTunes account, he too would have a million versions. I am cruel and keep it down to one.
I quite like that Daft Punk song, as well.

    • My husband snuck his own iTunes account which made me so mad because he wound up re-buying a bunch of songs we already had! And I can’t control how many versions of Royals he has!

  16. I love Cat Stevens! It didn’t really surprise me about LMFAO – Party Rock Anthem. It seems to be one of those catchy tunes that even if you don’t want to like it, it somehow grows on you, like a fungus. lol. Great list!!
